Mariachi Director

Wabash College seeks a passionate and experienced Mariachi Director to lead our new Mariachi Ensemble. The Music Department is excited to expand our program with this rich and culturally significant genre. This is an adjunct, part-time position with responsibilities during the academic year (August – May).
The Mariachi Director will be responsible for the artistic and educational leadership of our Mariachi ensemble. This includes rehearsing and conducting the ensemble in practices and performances, arranging music, teaching instrumental and vocal techniques specific to Mariachi, and fostering a positive and engaging learning environment.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and conduct weekly rehearsals.
- Select and arrange appropriate repertoire for the ensemble.
- Provide instruction in instrumental techniques specific to Mariachi instruments (violin, vihuela, guitarron, trumpet) and vocal techniques.
- Organize and direct performances for campus and community events.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, provide timely feedback to students, and submit grades for students who are participating in the ensemble for academic credit.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student growth and artistic expression.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated expertise in Mariachi performance.
- Proficiency in playing and teaching Mariachi instruments and vocal techniques.
- Strong knowledge of Mariachi repertoire and its historical and cultural context.
- Excellent conducting and arranging skills.
- Past teaching experience preferred but not required.
